Effect of Industrial Coconut Oil Effluent Irrigation on Germination, Growth and Yield of Talinum fruticosum (Talinaceae)

The increase in food production has been a major concern to developing countries. Due the high demand for certain crops especially vegetables, farmers resort use of wastewater cultivate these during dry season. This research work aimed investigate effects industrial coconut oil effluent (ICE) on germination, growth and yield Talinum fruticosum (water leaf). physicochemical composition was determined using standard analytical methods. Germination vegetative (the plant height, number leaves, leaf area fresh weight) were studied T. fruticosum. plants subjected irrigation with 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% 0% (control) concentrations ICE. experiment studies carried out Completely Randomized Design (CRD). data collected every two weeks, Analysis Variance (ANOVA) means compared by Duncan’s new multiple range test (DNMRT) at P < 0.05. results analysis ICE showed that most parameters above FEPA limits except lead. Results from germination revealed mean values treatment significantly higher P<0.05 seeds seedling gradually declined as concentration increased. Therefore, adequate dilution is required before disposal reuse purposes.
